Scarborough Subway Extension (SSE) — Advance Tunnel Project

The advance tunnelling project is the first phase of work for the 7.8 kilometre extension of the Toronto Transit Commission's (TTC) Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) subway line, from Kennedy Station to McCowan Road/Sheppard Avenue.

The P3 contract was awarded in May 2021 with construction starting in June 2021. The project includes a launch shaft, a reception shaft, five headwalls for future stations and 14 headwalls for rescue shafts. A tunnel boring machine with a diameter of 11.87 metres was used for the tunnelling work.

A separate project using a Progressive-Design-Build (PDB) contract is delivering the rest of the work, such as building the stations, fitting-out the tunnel and installing and commissioning the systems to put the subway in service.
