The new Moncton Law Courts building, located in the heart of downtown Moncton, is home to both the Provincial and Queens Bench (federal) courts. The 12,150 sq. metre (135,000 sq. ft.) facility, which held its first court session in February 2011, contains 15 courtrooms, two hearing rooms, a secure detention centre, as well as chambers for the judiciary. It also has offices for court services administration personnel, public prosecutions, lawyers, sheriffs, police and staff from other provincial departments.

All public spaces are located along the front of the building, flanked by large river-facing glass walls. The judiciary is securely positioned at the back with views to downtown Moncton, while the accused move about from detention to courtrooms through highly secure vertical circulation routes.

The P3 project, which involved Citigroup and associated companies, was done in partnership with the New Brunswick governmenr and was completed on time and on budget in 2011. Under the P3 agreement, Citigroup agreed to build, own, operate, finance, maintain and lease back the facility to the province for $7.1 million per year. The province will assume ownership of the facility at the end of the 30-year lease. Law firm McInnis Cooper acted for the secured lender in the financing of this $50-million plus project.
