Note from the CEO: New Look for the Council, New Member Engagement Opportunities, New P3 Awards

Change is in the air at the Council as we celebrate our 30th year.

Just as Canada’s P3 market is evolving, so too must the Council. Over the last 18 months, we have reimagined our Vision and Mission statements to better reflect the Council’s raison d’être, we have increased our focus on thought leadership and advocacy by having a greater presence in mainstream media, our first Advocacy Day with Alberta’s Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly, and a greater focus on the important discussions required to keep our industry healthy and vibrant.

And we have a number of important strategic initiatives underway to better serve our members as we work to advocate on behalf of Canada's P3 sector, advance meaningful conversations and set the groundwork for critical policy work.

A big welcome to the members of our new Municipal Engagement Advisory Group:

  • Tom Barlow, Fasken
  • Daniel Herscovitch, Bird Construction
  • Sam Johnson, Graham
  • Asif Kurji, City of Calgary
  • Wesley Muir, Veolia
  • Greg Oberti, PwC
  • Marianne Smith, Blakes
  • Josh Van Deurzen, Torys

We held our first meeting last week to start prepping on how best to develop a new CCPPP Municipal Engagement Strategy to help communities develop and procure projects and manage assets. It’s not too late to join this experienced group and help shape the Council’s work!

This fall, we'll also host the first meeting of CCPPP's new Data and Research Committee. To create persuasive and impartial arguments in support of P3s and to guide their evolution, it's important for the Council to determine where best to focus its research efforts and find experts who can contribute statistics and analysis from both the public and private sector.

This is truly important work, underpinning the future success of our advocacy efforts with governments at all levels to grow the project pipeline. We still have a few spots remaining if you're interested in joining. For more information on the Advisory Group and the Committee, please send me a note at [email protected]

We're also squeezing in some fun! A big thank you to the members and sponsors who came out to join us at two successful sold out events in Toronto and Vancouver. As part of our Spring Networking Event at TMX Market Centre, we hosted the soft launch of our new Council logo and branding.

We'll continue to roll this out over the summer, culminating with the unveiling of our new website. Over the summer, the team and I will be working hard to prepare for the fall. Planning is also underway for our annual series of cross-Canada events (including Advocacy Days) — more details to come when we've firmed up locations and dates on the East and West coasts and on the Prairies.

We're also gearing up to host Canada's infrastructure sector at P3 2023. Registration is now open! In the program, you'll notice we've made a number of changes based on feedback from our delegates last year.

We've added more networking opportunities and a brand-new Workshop Series to bring together small groups with a facilitator or moderator to guide focused deep dives into key issues impacting the future of P3s in Canadian infrastructure.

We hope you enjoy the Canada Day and Fourth of July weekend and have a relaxing (but productive!) summer.

As always, my door is open.
